HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS HELP RECRUIT ICF CANDIDATES

Every year Inner-City Filmmakers enlists the aid of teachers and career counselors at high schools and social service agencies throughout Southern California to actively identify and help recruit exceptional students who are imaginative, exhibit talent and aptitude, and have a desire to work in the media industry.

Since 1993, Inner-City Filmmakers has offered a free intensive filmmaking Summer Program for low-income high school seniors and recent graduates to gain a working knowledge of the motion picture and television industries. Included in the summer classes are college guidance, business-development skills training and direction towards continuing education.

Assistance is provided in entry-level job placement for qualifying graduates. Inner-City Filmmakers has placed more than 50% of ICF graduates in paying entry-level jobs at film studios and production companies. ICF graduates are now members of film craft guilds including the Motion Picture Editors Guild, International Cinematographers Guild, and the Studio Electrical Lighting Technicians. Many students, from groups who have traditionally been underrepresented in the motion picture industry, are working and gaining valuable experience in other phases of production and postproduction. And more than 72% of ICF graduates have continued on to higher education.

The ICF Summer Program takes place at the Lantana Center, and runs for 8 weeks in July and August. The opportunity is offered free to qualified students. Teachers and counselors with potential candidates can request applications, which are available in February. For more information about Inner-City Filmmakers and how you can provide opportunities for your students call (310) 264-3992 or contact them by e-mail at innercityfilm@earthlink.net.
